Monteverdi

Vêpres de la Vierge – Monteverdi

This is one of the major works of the period of transition between the music of the Renaissance and the Baroque music that the GVRT has chosen to interpret in its entirety. This work alternates between the old style represented by the Psalms, five, and a more modern style for the time represented by more concertante parts in which the soloists play an important role.
It is in 1610 Monteverdi gives Vespers for the first time in Mantua before giving them in the St Mark's Basilica in Venice.
A few years before Vespers, Monteverdi took part in the creation of the very first operas and in particular the Orfeo with Vespers are also inspired.

The Group Vocal Renaissance of Toulouse (GVRT) has been founded in Toulouse, en 1984. It brings together, its leader Luc Michelet Autour, a confirmed amateur singers, passion for early music, primarily Renaissance but also Baroque.
It occurs about two or three times a year in Toulouse and its region.

The GVRT consists of 16 singers across the four usual desks : Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and basses.
