"The byzantine mosaic., of Byzantium, the current Istanbul, developed in the Byzantine empire, between the 4th and 15th century.
This art, shot entirely to religious representations, is characterized by a mixture of Roman tradition, Eastern and Greek.
The typical elements of Byzantine art are: the stylization of the faces, the use of Golden tesserae and new materials,
as the Venetian smaltes.
This conference will present examples of Byzantine mosaics in Turkey (Istanbul), in Italy (Ravenna, Rome, Venice, Sicily, Florence and Pisa), in Greece (Daphni) and in France (Carolingian oratory of Germigny-des-Prés).
It will be moderated by two interveners: Beatrice Pradillon-brands, mosaicist and Bernadette de Pascale-Dalmas, specialist of Italian art.

The city of Pompeii, located near Naples, has been buried by an eruption of Vesuvius, en 79 a.d.. In its houses murals, preserved by mud and ashes coverage, reached almost intact and seem always also living. Most of these wonderful frescoes show landscapes or mythological subjects, they have helped to better understand the daily life of the people of Pompeii.
