Friuli is an Italian region, located in the north-eastern extremity of the country, bordering the Slovenia and the Austria. It has a great variety of landscapes, ranging from the sea to the mountains (Carso and Dolomites). Cities like Trieste, Udine, Gorizia and Pordenone have a rich cultural heritage. In the Friuli there 4 sites listed by Unesco heritage of humanity: Cividale del Friuli, Aquileia, Palù di Livenza and the Dolomites, between Udine and Pordenone.

"The byzantine mosaic., of Byzantium, the current Istanbul, developed in the Byzantine empire, between the 4th and 15th century.
This art, shot entirely to religious representations, is characterized by a mixture of Roman tradition, Eastern and Greek.
The typical elements of Byzantine art are: the stylization of the faces, the use of Golden tesserae and new materials,
as the Venetian smaltes.
This conference will present examples of Byzantine mosaics in Turkey (Istanbul), in Italy (Ravenna, Rome, Venice, Sicily, Florence and Pisa), in Greece (Daphni) and in France (Carolingian oratory of Germigny-des-Prés).

It will be moderated by two interveners: Beatrice Pradillon-brands, mosaicist and Bernadette de Pascale-Dalmas, specialist of Italian art.

"Empire of the color., Pompeii in the South of Gaul.. Free entry.

The city of Pompeii, located near Naples, has been buried by an eruption of Vesuvius, en 79 a.d.. In its houses murals, preserved by mud and ashes coverage, reached almost intact and seem always also living. Most of these wonderful frescoes show landscapes or mythological subjects, they have helped to better understand the daily life of the people of Pompeii.

Lake Como is located in the North of the Italy, in Lombardy. The Lake is shaped like a Y reversed. Considered by Stendhal “The most beautiful site in the world”, Lake Como was the favorite of the romantics in the 19th century. Surrounded by the mountains reflected in its waters, It enjoys a pleasant climate.

Lake Maggiore, located between Piedmont and Lombardy, enjoys a very mild climate. It is surrounded by green mountains and on its edges lie picturesque villages. The natural beauty of the landscape mingle villas and gardens in Italian. In the middle of the Lake, There is the marvellous Borromean islands.
