Raffaello

Is the Christmas gift that the city offers to the city. The Esterházy Madonna» of Raphael will be exhibited in Hall 11 on Wednesday at Alessi January. The work is from the Museum of fine arts in Budapest. "It is an artwork that will excite the audience», said the Mayor Giuliano Pisapia, by presenting. And it's an opportunity to expose two more paintings in Milan, similar in subject and time: the ' Virgin of Borghetto», the best ancient copy of the ' Virgin of the rocks "by Leonardo, granted by the Institute of Ursuline nuns and attributed to Francesco Melzi, and the "Madonna della rosa» by Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, the Poldi Pezzoli Museum loan. The exhibition "is rooted in our cultural and artistic tradition, Milanese and Italian-said the head of culture, Filippo Del Corno -, engaging to the genius of Leonardo and his painting and anticipating the great exhibition that will open in 2015». Placed under the high patronage of the President of the Republic and promoted by Comune di Milano, Intesa Sanpaolo and la Rinascente, the initiative was created by the Royal Palace and the Museum of fine arts in Budapest in collaboration with Italy galleries of Piazza Scala, curated by Stefano Zuffi and organised in collaboration with Arthemisia Group.

Raphael was inspired by Leonardo

The painting depicts the Madonna and child and San Giovannino and marks the end of the period spent by Raphael in Florence and the decision to move to Rome». The composition is explicitly inspired by Leonardo, that Raphael had met and studied during the four years he spent in Florence. Do not know the client and everything suggests that Raphael has always held with him. Will be donated by Pope Clement IX Albani to Elizabeth Christina of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, future wife of Emperor Carlo VI and mother of Empress Maria Theresia. The painting will go then to the Esterházy and finally to the Budapest Museum from which, in 1983, will be stolen on a Greek Tycoon. Story with a happy ending, with the discovery of an abandoned convent in Greece. The entrance and the Alessi Hall tours are free. For reservations at schools 800.167619.

Pisapia

«Christmas in Milan fills up once more to art, of beauty and culture – comment the Mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia -. Raphael back to Palazzo Marino for the traditional view that represents the free gift to all the Milanese and the thousands of tourists who will be in our city in this festive period. The artwork of Raffaello, though, is much more than just a Christmas gift to the city: is the result of a work method with which the administration creates strategic alliances with the private sector for growth and cultural development in Milan».
